Luke 2:41-52 | Colossians 3:12-17


Read: 

This is a story from when Jesus was twelve years old: “Jesus was sitting in the Temple with the religious teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. His mother said to him, ‘Son, why did you do this to us? Your father and I were very worried about you. We have been looking for you.’ Jesus asked, ‘Why did you have to look for me? You should have known that I must be where my Father’s work is!’” —Luke 2:46b, 48b-49


Wonder:

I wonder what Jesus was asking the religious teachers. I wonder how Mary and Joseph felt when they found Jesus in the temple. I wonder if you’ve ever gone off to play somewhere and worried your parents. I wonder how it felt for Jesus to be in a place where he could be himself and be close with God. I wonder if there’s a place where you feel like you can be completely yourself. 


Say: 

The good news is that God made us unique with different gifts and talents, and there is a place just for you where you fit in and can be exactly the person God made you to be. 


Pray: 

Let’s pray. Dear God, we are grateful that you have made us each unique. Thank you for the places where we can be ourselves. Please help everyone find that kind of place. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.


Extend: 

- Draw a picture of a place where you feel like you belong. 

- Put a jigsaw puzzle together with your family. Remember how each of us is unique like a puzzle piece and each piece has a place where it belongs. 

- Watch the Disney movie Frozen, Frozen II, or Hercules. How does Elsa or Hercules feel at the beginning of the movie when they don’t think they fit in? How do they feel at the end of the movie? What helps?

  I Wonder - Easter 2022 1.     Cross  The day Jesus died was very sad. It was a Friday. A man in the crowd helped Jesus to carry his cross to a place called Golgotha. When Jesus died on the cross, it was so sad that people say the sun refused to shine.   2.     Rock/Tomb  When Jesus died, Joseph of Arimathea wrapped Jesus’ body in linen and placed him in a tomb sealed with a large stone so that no one would trouble Jesus’ body. 3.     Sunrise  Three days later, on a Sunday, very early in the morning, while it was still dark with tints of purple and pink in the sky, some women went to the tomb. They were too unhappy to notice the beautiful sky. In fact, they were so distracted and sad they even forgot about the big rock sealing Jesus’ tomb. How would they roll it away? All they wanted was to care for Jesus’ body. 4.     Empty Tomb  When the women arrived they found that the stone had been rolled away! They looked inside the tomb; it was dark, cold, and empty. The women were scared.

I Wonder...April 24th - "Earth Care Sunday"

I Wonder: April 24, 2022: "Earth Care Sunday" I would like for you to take an imaginary journey with me. If you would, please close your eyes for a few minutes. Think about a place outside that you like to go to. There are so many beautiful places that it’s hard for me to choose. Will you choose somewhere in the mountains – somewhere you’ve been hiking? Or on a beach hearing the waves rush onto the shore? I have seen some wonderful waterfalls – maybe you’d like to be there. Or a desert with the cactus all around. Growing up we spent a lot of times in the woods. This time of the year we would be watching for mushrooms to pop up. I hope you are feeling relaxed and comfortable and enjoying this place in your mind. Now imagine what it would look like ruined – trees cut down, cactus dying, there are no animals, the waterfalls are just a trickle of water, there is trash all around – wrappers, plastic bags stuck everywhere.
