Easter I Wonder...April 17th
I Wonder - Easter 2022
1. Cross
The day Jesus died was very sad. It was a Friday. A man in the crowd helped Jesus to carry his cross to a place called Golgotha. When Jesus died on the cross, it was so sad that people say the sun refused to shine.
2. Rock/Tomb
When Jesus died, Joseph of Arimathea wrapped Jesus’ body in linen and placed him in a tomb sealed with a large stone so that no one would trouble Jesus’ body.
3. Sunrise
Three days later, on a Sunday, very early in the morning, while it was still dark with tints of purple and pink in the sky, some women went to the tomb. They were too unhappy to notice the beautiful sky. In fact, they were so distracted and sad they even forgot about the big rock sealing Jesus’ tomb. How would they roll it away? All they wanted was to care for Jesus’ body.
4. Empty Tomb
When the women arrived they found that the stone had been rolled away! They looked inside the tomb; it was dark, cold, and empty. The women were scared. Where is Jesus? What has happened to his body?
5. Angel
And then a warm, bright light shone all around them. The woman froze with fear at the sight of two angels. One said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Why do you look for Jesus here? This is a place for the dead, and Jesus is alive!” The woman ran back to tell the other disciples all that had happened.
6. Butterfly
Just as the butterfly is a different form from the caterpillar, Jesus was in a different form. Jesus, although in a different form, returned to Galilee to visit his disciples and give them instructions on how to live. Jesus, although in a different form, continues to live among us now.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to teach us about your love. Thank you for the hope that Jesus gives us. Help us to learn how to share that love with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
I Wonder . . . .
how many different kinds of crosses you are familiar with
what you might have said to Jesus if you had seen him on the cross
what you would have done on Saturday between Jesus’ dying and His resurrection
how you would have felt if you had seen the angel and heard what he said
if you will remember how the butterfly is connected to Jesus’ resurrection
what your favorite part of Easter is
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to teach us about your love. Thank you for the hope that Jesus gives us. Help us to learn how to share that love with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thoughts for Tots
Youth Activity (for all ages)
The Easter symbols will be on display for a few weeks. If you would like to create your own, we would love to see it. There are ideas for how to decorate an egg in the thoughts for tots. You could draw a picture of an egg and decorate it with some of the ideas from the video. Please bring your drawings or colored symbols and put them on the tables in the fellowship area to share!
