I Wonder for May 22, 2022

Mark 5:21-24, 35-43
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”36 Overhearing[a] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

  • if it was hard to ask Jesus for help
  • how the little girl felt when Jesus took her hand
  • how the people in the house felt when they saw the girl healed
  • if you would have told others about what Jesus did

Prayer
Dear God, help us to remember that you are never too busy for us to ask you for help. Give us faith to believe you will help us. Thank you for giving people the skills to help us when we are sick. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

  I Wonder - Easter 2022 1.     Cross  The day Jesus died was very sad. It was a Friday. A man in the crowd helped Jesus to carry his cross to a place called Golgotha. When Jesus died on the cross, it was so sad that people say the sun refused to shine.   2.     Rock/Tomb  When Jesus died, Joseph of Arimathea wrapped Jesus’ body in linen and placed him in a tomb sealed with a large stone so that no one would trouble Jesus’ body. 3.     Sunrise  Three days later, on a Sunday, very early in the morning, while it was still dark with tints of purple and pink in the sky, some women went to the tomb. They were too unhappy to notice the beautiful sky. In fact, they were so distracted and sad they even forgot about the big rock sealing Jesus’ tomb. How would they roll it away? All they wanted was to care for Jesus’ body. 4.     Empty Tomb  When the women arrived they found that the stone had been rolled away! They looked inside the tomb; it was dark, cold, and empty. The women were scared.

I Wonder...April 24th - "Earth Care Sunday"

I Wonder: April 24, 2022: "Earth Care Sunday" I would like for you to take an imaginary journey with me. If you would, please close your eyes for a few minutes. Think about a place outside that you like to go to. There are so many beautiful places that it’s hard for me to choose. Will you choose somewhere in the mountains – somewhere you’ve been hiking? Or on a beach hearing the waves rush onto the shore? I have seen some wonderful waterfalls – maybe you’d like to be there. Or a desert with the cactus all around. Growing up we spent a lot of times in the woods. This time of the year we would be watching for mushrooms to pop up. I hope you are feeling relaxed and comfortable and enjoying this place in your mind. Now imagine what it would look like ruined – trees cut down, cactus dying, there are no animals, the waterfalls are just a trickle of water, there is trash all around – wrappers, plastic bags stuck everywhere.
